Hi, I'm Dr Alan Altham, Clinical Director and Principal Psychiatrist at Bluewater Health.

When I started this clinic, the goal was straightforward — to make sure people in rural and remote areas could access specialist psychiatric care without having to travel to Perth. Over the years, it's been one of the great privileges of my career to support so many people through difficult times, and I'm genuinely moved by the trust that patients and families place in me.

The clinic has grown more than I ever anticipated, and while that's something I'm really proud of, it's also brought me to a point where I need to be honest with myself — and with you — about what I can sustain without compromising the quality of care I believe everyone deserves.

After careful reflection, I've decided to close to new metropolitan referrals for now, while continuing to accept new patients from rural and remote areas. This isn't a decision I've taken lightly. It's about protecting the people already in my care, and making sure that anyone who comes to Bluewater Health gets the time, attention, and consistency they deserve.

If you're a current patient, nothing changes for you.

I hope this is a temporary pause, and I look forward to being able to open more broadly again in the future. In the meantime, thank you — genuinely — for your understanding and your continued trust. It means a great deal.
