Dr Alan Altham graduated with an MBBS from the University of Notre Dame, completing his internship at Royal Perth Hospital before entering Psychiatry Training in 2018. Driven by a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by mental health consumers in rural and remote areas, he has dedicated his career to improving access to quality mental health care.
During his training, Dr Altham distinguished himself as a leader and advocate, serving as President of the Western Australian Association of Psychiatrists in Training, Chair of the RANZCP Binational Trainee Representative Committee, and member of the RANZCP Education and Accreditation Committees. He also contributed to the WA Branch Committee and WA Branch Training Committee, and played a key role in the WA Health Sustainable Health Review. His international engagement includes involvement with the World Psychiatric Association's Early Career Psychiatrist Group.
Now based in the remote North West of Western Australia, Dr Altham continues to champion rural mental health. He holds a Senior Clinical Lecturer position with the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia and the University of Western Australia, and is a Clinical Debriefing Tutor at the University of Notre Dame. His academic roles reflect his dedication to mentoring the next generation of rural healthcare professionals.
Previously, Dr Altham served on the Federal AMA Council of Rural Doctors, reinforcing his commitment to reducing health disparities in underserved regions. He remains passionate about addressing the physical health needs of mental health consumers and advocating for equitable healthcare access across Australia.
Professor Poppy is our therapy greyhound and is often seen in the background of video consultations.
She enjoys long walks, sniffing a lot, and occasionally abandoning me when the others have left snacks unattended.
